Our Dentists

Meet Our Dentists

James Schmoyer, DDS

James G. Schmoyer, DDS - Dentist in Wyomissing, Reading PAI was raised in Berks County and received my Bachelor of Arts degree from the Pennsylvania State University.  After three years of work and further post graduate education I attended Temple University School of Dentistry graduating with a Doctor of Dental Surgery (D.D.S.) degree.

For me, the choice of dentistry as a career has led to a lifetime of so many rewarding experiences.  The reason  Dr. Greenlee and I together established Penn’s Commons Dental Group, Ltd was so that we could dedicate our skills to providing patients with the highest quality care available. My profession offers me the opportunity to embrace technology, to build meaningful relationships with dentists, my staff, and patients in order to contribute to the community where I grew up.

As I continue to expand my skills and expertise, I find that dentistry serves as an outlet for my artistic sensibilities.  I enjoy restoring things to their original beauty and function, including my 1954 TR2.   Also, I enjoy designing and building projects of form, function and durability. This includes my current home and my hand built bamboo fly rods.

Therefore, the field of dentistry, restoring mouths, creating beautiful smiles and helping people realize their optimal dental health is a perfect venue for my interests and talents.

My wife Stephanie was a high school guidance counselor in Berks County.  Our daughter Katie is a University of Delaware graduate and teaches 7th grade reading and writing.  She lives with her husband Cory and their sons’ Kellen and Micah in Wyoming.  Our son Zac  is a Penn State Grad and works as a private I.T. contractor in the metro D.C. area.  My free time is spent cycling, fishing and playing guitar

Then in 1981,  Dr. Sam partnered with Dr. Schmoyer to form Penn’s Commons Dental Group.

Dr. Sam’s wife, Jan, is on the faculty of the School of Dental Hygiene of Harcum College. They have two daughters, Lauren and Emily. Lauren is a Ph. D. staff researcher at the National Institute of Standards and Technology (NIST) in Boulder, CO. Emily is a nurse in the Cardiac Intensive Care unit of Nemours/Alfred I. Besides being a dentist, Dr. Sam is an avid water sports enthusiast, especially waterskiing in the slalom course. He has been a life-long runner, but in recent years has pursued triathlons.  For him, WW II history is a passion  as a result of his father’s and father-in-law’s service in the Pacific theater.
